Helping DC Residents Keep Their Health Coverage
For the millions of Americans who have health insurance coverage through Medicaid — including low-income adults, children, pregnant women, seniors, and people with disabilities — 2023 brought important changes to their health benefits. Throughout 2023 and into 2024, as a result of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency coming to an end, all Medicaid beneficiaries had to renew coverage for themselves and their families for the first time in several years. While thousands of DC residents were at risk of losing their health coverage, Vanguard worked with AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia (DC) to help youth and families stay covered for all their health care needs. We created compelling digital ads in plain language to alert enrollees to the end of the continuous eligibility requirement, and to educate enrollees on the steps they must take to renew their coverage. We drafted informational articles that were published in relevant multimedia news outlets as well as enrollee newsletters to reach as many people as possible. We also developed a new web page to provide enrollees with ongoing information related to Medicaid eligibility renewals and promoted the AmeriHealth Caritas DC Enrollee Wellness and Opportunity Center as a resource for enrollees for in-person assistance or questions on the renewal process. Using multiple channels and materials formats, we helped AmeriHealth Caritas DC ensure that Medicaid enrollees kept the health coverage they need and deserve.
