Celebrating Our Clients’ Impact in 2020

This year has brought challenges in all shapes and sizes. We’ve stood by each other to help weather the storm and were grateful for even the smallest moments of joy. PRSA-NCC’s 2020 National Capital Excellence in Communication Awards

Publications: “First Things First” campaign—AmeriHealth

This brochure was developed for a campaign designed to help AmeriHealth Caritas DC (ACDC) members experience healthy pregnancies and deliver healthy babies. To help address poor maternal health outcomes, ACDC and Vanguard created messaging and marketing materials related to this issue.

Integrated Media Relations–Campaigns on Budget of $25,000 and Up—American Psychological Association Stress in America™ campaign: “Americans Say Current Events a Source of Significant Stress”

In 2019, the annual Stress in America survey focused on the presidential election, mass shootings, health care, climate change and sexual harassment. Media coverage positioned APA and its psychologists as experts in more than 380 print and online outlets that generated more than 308 million estimated media impressions within the first 30 days of the survey’s release. The survey also received notable attention in local media markets, garnering coverage from 70+ local television and radio stations in cities such as New York, Chicago, Houston and San Diego. For the first time in the survey’s history, Stress in America received notable coverage in Latinx media outlets, including stories in Impacto Latino, Latin Post and several Univision and Telemundo affiliates.

Digital Health Awards

Silver in Digital Health Media/Publications: Video—Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration: College Drinking: Prevention Perspectives–Embracing Culture and Context to Prevent Underage Drinking

Developed as part of a video series for SAMHSA’s Underage Drinking Prevention Education Initiatives, this episode examines how historically Black colleges and universities factor in their rich culture and history when addressing underage and problem drinking.

2020 Graphic Design USA Health + Wellness Design Awards—Communities Talk social media campaign

This series of social media graphics developed for SAMHSA’s Underage Drinking Prevention Education Initiatives offers data and facts on underage drinking and encourages users to host their own Communities Talk event to prevent underage drinking.

On the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, Vanguard produced a video featuring staff reflections on the reasons why we continue to make voting a priority.

Clarion Award, Public Relations Campaign, Ongoing—Annual Budget of $50,000 or more—American Psychological Association: Stress in America™: Stress and Current Events

As APA and Vanguard began developing the 2019 Stress in America survey, several major events in the news became touch points that revealed deep divides (and painful realities) in our nation’s experience. In response, APA and Vanguard developed a survey that tried to understand how these events — and the stress they cause — impacted Americans. The survey results generated exposure of psychologists and their role in helping people cope with stress; expanded APA’s reach to Latinx audiences experiencing high levels of stress; and inspired earned media coverage of survey results and stress management tips from APA member psychologists.

First Place—Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration: Tips for Teens series

These tip sheets for teens provide facts about commonly misused drugs. They describe short- and long-term effects, list signs of drug misuse, and help dispel common myths. They can also be used by prevention professionals, educators, health care providers and others to help educate teens.
