Digital Bytes

The royal wedding is almost upon us, but Facebook continues to hog the digital limelight! How is this even possible? Here’s the latest:

  • The Cambridge Analytica fallout continues as Facebook suspends around 200 apps in its first stage of review. The social network is investigating all apps that had access to large amounts of data. But as Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg admits, while the investigation will help deter future transgressions, it will not show where or how the data was used previously.
  • However, the Cambridge Analytica incident does not seem to have affected Facebook’s stock or users as the company’s quarterly earnings showed a 63 percent rise in profits and an increase in users, albeit lower than last year’s. Nonprofits continue monitoring your engagement to see if your U.S. user engagement changes.

In other news …

  • Instagram will soon show you how much time you spend on the app. This could help users and nonprofits learn how people are engaging with the app.
  • Twitter is once again trying to encourage healthier, less troll-y conversations by limiting the visibility of people being abusive. Here’s hoping it works!
  • The Senate voted to maintain net neutrality. Now it’s over to the House.

YouTube killed the TV star…and so did Facebook, and Netflix. As people move toward digital advertising, traditional broadcast media companies like NBCUniversal and Fox are trying to lure people back through cross-platform advertising.

Have a great video but not sure what to do with it or where to start? Here’s a helpful infographic that takes you all the way from video strategy planning to measurement.

Finally …

Vine fans (are there still any of you out there?) the sequel, V2, is officially on hold…indefinitely. Co-founder Don Hoffman said the postponement was largely due to “financial and legal hurdles.” It may be time to let go.
